    National Rural Health Mission (NRHM)

    Introduction

    The Government of India launched the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) on 12 April 2005. The mission aims to provide adequate , up-to-date and effective health services to poor women and children in rural areas . The National Rural Health Mission is a seven-year programme . The government will report on the progress achieved in the mission during this specific period .

    • Reducing infant mortality rate and maternal mortality rate .
    • Providing easy access to public health services regarding basic services like public sanitation , nutritious food , and water supply .
    • Prevention and control of other communicable and non-communicable diseases along with local health control .
    • To devise measures to ensure access to primary health care for all people

    Some of the major steps taken under the project to achieve the objectives are Policies

    • the total expenditure on health care from the current 0.9 percent of GDP to 2 to 3 percent .
    • control and management of public health services, Panchayat representatives should be trained and informed about this. To inform .
    • To select a female health worker ASHA in every village .
    • in every village through the Village Health , Nutrition , Sanitation and Water Supply Committee .
    • sub-centres , primary health centres and rural hospitals . ( IPHS Std.)
    • To prepare and implement village health planning plans at the local level .
    • Local traditional healing practices , AYUSH ( Ayurveda , Pathophysiology , Natural Medicine , Unani , Siddha , Homeopathy ) in public health services Including them .
    • To integrate various vertical health and family welfare programs at national, state , district and taluka levels .
