School Nutrition Scheme

In order to universalize primary education and to increase the enrollment and attendance of students in primary schools and to stop school dropouts, the Central Government sponsored school nutrition scheme for students of class 1 to 5 has been implemented in the state since November 22, 1995. In the year 2007-08, the central government extended this scheme to the students from the educationally backward groups of classes 6th to 8th and in 2008-09 it was introduced to all the students of classes 6th to 8th in the state of Pasan.When the School Nutrition Scheme was started by the Central Government in the year 1995-96, the format of the scheme was to provide 3 kg of free rice to the students per month (Take Home Supplement). Then in the year 2001 Hon. The Supreme Court ordered that students should be given cooked food instead of rice in the school nutrition scheme. Accordingly, in the year 2002 Passan, instead of giving rice at home, students are being given cooked food at school.
