Program information
Integrated Disease Surveillance Project ( IDSP) is a decentralized national program . The objective of the project is to identify warning signs / symptoms before the outbreak and take timely action . The information obtained is used for monitoring the disease control program and the role of health facilities and resources is to be used more effectively .
The likelihood of all epidemics depends on how early they can be diagnosed and how effectively the measures for control are implemented . The effectiveness of all measures to contain the epidemic depends on how quickly they are implemented . If the epidemic has assumed a severe form and measures are implemented later, the use of limited resources available is not very useful in containing the epidemic or in controlling the number of infections and deaths .
During the spread of an epidemic or when there is a high-risk situation, the participation of other government , non-governmental organizations, and society is very important . Taking into account the epidemic situation, if an action plan is prepared by coordinating and involving such departments / institutions, it will definitely be useful .
The Integrated Disease Surveillance System is operational across the country . It will be instrumental in strengthening the capacity of health services to respond to emergencies and handle outbreaks .
The key components of the disease surveillance system are
- Disease survey
- Empowerment of health care at various levels
- Strengthening of laboratories
- Computer facilities to District Survey Teams for collection and analysis of information / data
- Coverage of the private health sector
