    Introduction to the Department

    Sampurn Swachhata Abhiyan was again transformed into Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan. The policy of the department was decided to provide financial assistance and awareness through the central and state governments, mainly on the assumption that every family should have an individual toilet and that it should be used by all members of the family.

    During the financial year 2014-15, both the missions were renamed as Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin. Apart from the subject of individual toilets, public toilets, solid waste and wastewater management, plastic waste management, mile-level management were presented to the government. Under this initiative, more than two lakh twenty-six thousand families (all below poverty line families and SC / ST above poverty line families) have been benefitted. Incentive Grant for Construction and Maintenance of Toilet Facilities to Tribals, Minorities, Landless Labourers, Women Head of Households, Disabled Head of Households) Rs. 12000 / – has been transferred to the beneficiary’s account. Further, more than 500 villages have been provided with public toilet facilities (Central and State share 70% and 15th Finance Commission 30%) at a cost of Rs. 3.00 lakh. These have been distributed to the respective gram panchayats. In addition to this, solid waste and sewerage management works are in progress in 1350 villages and completed Gram Panchayats are being declared as ODF Plus model. The target is to declare all villages as ODF Plus model by March 31, 2026.
