Lek Ladki Yojana
Scheme Overview
The Lek Ladki Yojana was launched across Maharashtra, including all districts, under the Government Resolution of the Women and Child Development Department (GR No. EBAVI/2022/PR No. 251/KA-6) dated October 30, 2023. The scheme has been implemented from April 1, 2023, to support the empowerment of girls from birth.
Key Objectives
- Encourage the birth of girls and increase the female birth rate.
- Promote girls’ education and reduce the percentage of out-of-school girls to zero.
- Reduce the infant mortality rate and prevent child marriages.
- Provide financial support in phases, totaling ₹1,01,000 (One Lakh One Thousand Rupees) by the time the girl reaches 18 years of age.
Eligibility Criteria
- The scheme applies to one or two daughters born on or after April 1, 2023, in families holding yellow or saffron ration cards. If a family has one son and one daughter, the scheme will be applicable to the daughter.
- Parents must submit a family planning certificate when applying for the third installment for the first child or the second installment for the second child.
- If twins (both girls or one girl) are born in the second pregnancy, they will be eligible for the scheme. However, the parents must submit a family planning certificate thereafter.
- If a family already has one child (boy or girl) born before April 1, 2023, and then has a second girl or twin girls, the scheme will apply. However, the parents must submit a family planning certificate.
- The beneficiary’s family must be permanent residents of Maharashtra.
- The bank account of the beneficiary must be in Maharashtra.
- The annual family income should not exceed ₹1,00,000. Required Documents.
- Birth Certificate of the beneficiary.
- Income certificate from Tahsildar or a competent authority confirming that the annual income does not exceed ₹1,00,000.
- Aadhaar Card of the beneficiary (this requirement is relaxed for the first installment).
- Aadhaar Card of parents.
- Photocopy of the first page of the bank passbook.
- Ration Card (Yellow or Saffron) – Photocopy.
- Voter ID (For the final installment, proof that the girl is listed in the voter list after turning 18).
- School Certificate confirming that the beneficiary is pursuing education (for relevant installments).
- Family Planning Certificate (for final installment).
- Self-declaration confirming that the girl is unmarried when applying for the last installment.
